Emmy is the founder and owner of the hottest Salon in the Inland Empire, Tryst Hair Boutique and Spa located in Chino Hills, California.   She has her own line of Hair Care products that she develops and manufactures in Chino.

Emmy  is an active member of the Board of Directors at Chino Hills based People’s Care, a company she and her husband founded in 1998 that has 50 locations across California.  A loving wife to her husband Mike, and the best friend of too many to name; but the title she is most proud of is Mom to Ethan 9, Megan 9, and Evan 8.

You and your husband were already running a successful business,  what made you decide to forge out on your own and open up a start-up salon?

“I was on vacation staying at the Four Seasons Hotel with the twins (2 year olds) and our one year old on what I would call a working vacation.  My husband knew I was a bit stressed so he watched the kids for the day and sent me to the spa.  I was amazed how wonderful that experience was.  I returned fully recharged. The spa was very high end and the service was nothing short of spectacular.  As soon as I got home I began looking for such a place locally to visit, but it did not exist. I began dreaming of opening such a place.  I wanted a place that felt like home.   A place where everyone knows your name.  A place where women could come in for a much needed rest despite their hectic day and grab a glass of wine and get a fabulous cut with great conversation.   I loved working with my husband and building People’s Care, but the truth is, that was his dream;  so one day I woke up and decided to follow my own dream and Tryst was born.”

How do you manage to stay on top of your busy schedule?

My schedule is very busy, that’s true.  However, because I am my own boss,  I have a great deal of flexibility.  I feel very fortunate to have this flexibility.  I take my kids to school and pick them up and chauffeur them to karate, gymnastics and horseback riding lessons, piano lessons and speech therapy, and in between, I am at Tryst working on specials or choosing the wine for the month or sampling new hair care products or new scents for shampoos or meeting my husband for lunch or going to the gym.  I guess the formula is 2 parts flexibility, 3 parts organization and one part crossing my fingers and hoping I get it all done in time for dinner.

What does the future look like for Tryst?  Any thoughts on opening other locations?

I get asked that a lot.  A franchise company even thought the concept at Tryst would make a good franchise concept,  but I disagree.  I believe that the real magic of Tryst is the great team that I have put together.  Could I put together another great team?  Sure I could,  but there is only one of me.   Can the magic at Tryst be systematized and documented into a policy and procedure manual?  I don’t think so.  For now I am having a great time running what I believe to be the very best Salon around.  I will take that over owning a bunch of mediocre salons.  But who knows what the future might hold.
